Spring Break

Cody and I just arrived home from Tijuana, Mexico!!! What an adventure! Cody signed on with other pre-dental students to spend spring break assisting volunteer dentists with helping the people of Tijuana improve their smiles:) Little did Cody know that not only would he be assisting, but he also did cleanings, sealants, fillings, and extractions! I even got to be his dental assistant on one patient. We loved every minute of it! The people are so warm and friendly. Even though I didn't speak a word of Spanish, they still treated me so kindly. They showed so much gratitude. It's rare for them to be able to afford dental care. In the evenings we were free to explore Mexico (in HUGE groups of coarse...it was a bit scary). We went to the beach where Cody got to try boogie boarding again. He hadn't been since he was a kid! He was really good and maybe a little too brave. He would swim out to the biggest waves and I would be left on the beach nervous as can be. We also explored downtown and visited a bunch of little shops/stands along the streets. My favorites were the tacos al pastor stand and paletas (popsicle) shop. Cody has been crazy about these tacos ever since his mission and was in heaven every time we visited the stand throughout the week. I progressively made my tacos a little spicier each day and loved it! My favorite treat at the paletas shops was a frozen banana covered in chocolate and nuts. It was simply divine. We had a blast experiencing the culture and learning to more fully appreciate the many conveniences we enjoy here at home...like running water and a bed! I'm glad I got to join Cody on his dental crusade. He's going to make a wonderful dentist someday. Here are a few pictures from our adventure:

By the way...my birthday was wonderful! Thank you, everyone, for all the birthday wishes! Cody surprised me with a dozen gorgeous roses and a candy bar card. He also gave me the beautfiul clock you see in the slide show. I love it! We celebreated that weekend with dinner at Firehouse Pizzaria (one of my personal favorites) and going to Andrew's awesome musical! We had cake and ice cream and Mamma and Papa Moon's following the show. Thanks to everyone for making it such a special day! Love you!

Camille you are one strong & brave cookie. What a drive! What an experience! That a girl! You are such a supportive wife! That would stink if your were in Ohio instead. I hope they change their minds back but either way we'll have to meet up. We should go see Christine at the same time...if she doesn't mind all of us!

Hey guys! Your trip sounds like so much fun! To Cody...I honestly would tell ANYBODY who is going into dental, to be a pediatric dentist. It is seriously the greatest job ever. Cody would be so good with the kids!
