This guy right here is the best. He always knows how to make me feel oh so special and plans the most thoughtful outings, get-aways, gifts, etc. Our 9-year anniversary trip did not disappoint! He planned everything. I just had to pack and wait to be surprised. His angel mother flew down to Arizona for the week to watch the kiddos and we were off!
To my complete surprise we flew to our second home state of Indiana to visit with some of our dearest friends. We had some girl time, caught up on life and shared lots of laughs!
We stayed with Brittany and Mikal, and went to church with them the following day. So great seeing our old ward again!
And some of Jaden's best buddies he misses dearly.
After church we got ready to hit the road to our next destination. Brittany and Mikal joined us for the trip which made it that much more fun! We love the Wades!
Had to stop and see the newly completed Indianapolis Temple. It's gorgeous!
The boys thought of every detail... even down to the road trip snacks. You can imagine how ecstatic we were to find this giant gummy worm would be joining us:)
I was so excited to arrive in Grand Haven, Michigan! We had visited a couple times before and love the place! We settled into our sweet apartment and found a great place to eat just down the road from us. We quickly finished to enjoy the gorgeous sunset on the beach.
Once it was dark, we found a nice spot to view the sweet fountain light show before heading back for the night.
More of the worm and beloved grape red vines.
The next morning we treated ourselves to a breakfast feast and could hardly make a dent in it, but it was delicious!
Found a great place for pedicures and manicures too! Even the guys joined in! It was their first time being pampered so, and I think they might have liked it just a tad.
Picked up some fudge while we were out and about too!
Later in the day the sun came out just enough for us to enjoy the beach. Lake Michigan is beautiful!
balcony seating for dinner that night
Then a lovely walk down the pier for sunset views.
The next morning we checked out of our room and enjoyed the balcony view one last time.
Boys did some golfing
While the girls caught some sun on the beach. It was so nice just having time to chill and chat. Love this girl!
Then it was back on the road for another great surprise! As we were crossing the great Mackinac Bridge we realized we were going somewhere amazing! We hopped on a ferry and headed to one of the most beautiful islands. Truly gorgeous! Mackinac Island is where one of my all-time favorite movies was filmed... Somewhere in Time. I had never even heard of this remarkable little gem of a place until this trip and was so excited to check it out!
It was cold, but totally worth it;)
The Grand Hotel... the place where Somewhere in Time came to be. Truly luxurious!
There are no cars on the island. Just horse drawn carriage and bicycles. It felt like we had stepped back in time, and I was so loving it. This guy knows me well.
The scenery was breath taking! Beautiful blossoms everywhere! Gorgeous victorian mansions and views of the lake. Seriously couldn't get enough!
Yessss! That's my movie!
out to dinner
We started off the next day with a morning hike to take in all the beauty of the island.
Arch Rock
We took a horse drawn carriage ride to learn more about the island. It was awesome!
Of course he took us to the infamous Grand Hotel.
a golf course... too bad it was raining!
warmed up with a little hot cocoa and some ice cream? haha
After heading back to the hotel for some hot tubbing, we cleaned up and headed to dinner.
a little dancing later that night
And other crazy late night shenanigans... the island shut down after 9pm so we had to get creative with some board games and good laughs about a friendly walrus:)
Our last morning on the island we rented some tandem bikes and road around the entire island. Took about an hour... 7 miles. Such beautiful scenery.
front porch of our hotel... Lake View Hotel
and one last ice cream stop at the cutest little shop
on the ferry back to the main land
The kids had such a fun time with Grammy! Lots of fun adventures.
They especially loved painting bug rocks, and were so excited to show them all off to us when we returned home.
It was definitely a week of a lifetime! Happy 9 years to us:)
